Essential Oils and Birth? What?

ALL ESSENTIAL OILS ARE NOT THE SAME. MESSAGE ME ABOUT PROPER USE OF OILS AND WHERE TO GET YOUR OWN!

That's right ladies, essential oils! I know it seems like the "it" thing at the moment, but for the first time in a while this "it" thing is actually amazingly progressive. We can look at our history of birth and see our ancestors using roots and natural oils in their laboring time and to them, that was modern medicine! If it worked for them why can't it work for us? Now let's talk about some of the oils that can benefit you and baby. For the first two we may have to take a step back into church because baby Jesus was given two of the very valuable oils for his development, frankincense and myrrh! It is said that frankincense is a wonderful for the perineum area, you are to use one drop in a carrier oil (coconut, jojoba, almond, etc.) and rub it on the perineum area to prevent tearing. After birth it was a practice to rub a bit of that mixture on the babies head for brain development, I am not sure if there is any proof of research on this practice, but it's a fun little fact! Myrrh is used for the baby in another way, it can be used on the umbilical cord to promote and advance its healing.

Some more oils that are helpful to mama during and after birth are:

Lavender: diffuse during birth for calming effect.

Peppermint: Aids in pain reduction and can be applied with carrier oil to areas of pain, the scent itself reduces nausea and the cooling feeling energizes and focuses mama.

Roman Chamomile: This beautiful oil is refreshing and rejuvenating. The best utilization is to drop some on a cool washcloth and place on mamas head.

Clary Sage: This oil is also amazing for that time of the month, but that's a whole other article! Clary sage is so grounding and can be applies to your wrists for a grounding affect during labor. Use in moderation!

Jasmine: Oh this beautiful hormone supporter, its probably one of the best oils to be diffusing during birth or wearing during your pregnancy journey!

Ylang Ylang and Geranium: This is a little combination I like to suggest for after birth, mix these two with a carrier oil, like coconut oil and rub it all over your tummy. It's been known to be extremely refreshing after birth as it tones, tightens and slows bleeding for your uterus.

I will soon be making another article specific to Young Living oils and blends with a link to my buisness if anyone is interested in learning more, on a brand specific breakdown! :)
